Similar labels can hide different processes
Brown maintains Graduate School application guidance and a separate master's-program FAQ. An applicant should not assume that a process described for one route applies identically to another, particularly when a program uses different application arrangements.
The Graduate School FAQ describes waiver requests through the application process. The master's FAQ includes its own guidance and contact information for problems with a waiver being applied. Those details are more useful than a code or procedure copied from an undated forum post.
Three checkpoints
- Eligibility: does the current policy cover the applicant's situation?
- Request: what information and action are required, and at what stage?
- Confirmation: does the application show the waiver as applied before payment is attempted?
These checkpoints separate intent from completed processing. They do not imply that an applicant should submit payment and assume reimbursement later.
A focused support question
Imagine an applicant believes a waiver was approved but still sees a charge. A useful message can identify the program, application route, status shown, and the step already completed. Sensitive financial documents should be shared only through the designated process, rather than added to a general inquiry without being requested.
The question is operational: “Could you confirm whether the waiver has been applied to this application and which step remains?”
Keep the waiver separate from admission
A fee waiver concerns the application charge. It is not an admission decision, scholarship offer, or promise of later tuition support. Each of those has a separate process.
This independent overview was checked October 25, 2026. Eligibility and procedures can change. Brown's current instructions and the applicant's portal status should guide the actual submission; this page does not determine individual eligibility.
