One conversion, carefully
At 6 minutes per kilometer, you cover 10 kilometers in an hour: 60 divided by 6 equals 10. At 5 minutes per kilometer, the corresponding speed is 12 kilometers per hour.
The same relationship works with miles when both parts use miles consistently.
| Pace | Speed |
|---|---|
| 10:00 min/km | 6 km/h |
| 7:30 min/km | 8 km/h |
| 6:00 min/km | 10 km/h |
7:30 is not 7.30 minutes
Thirty seconds is half a minute. For a calculation, 7 minutes 30 seconds becomes 7.5 minutes. Entering 7.30 produces a different answer because decimal minutes and clock notation are different systems.
Average the whole journey
For an overall pace, divide total time by total distance. Simply averaging two displayed pace values can be wrong when the segments cover different distances. Similarly, averaging two speeds can be wrong when the time spent at each differs.
Check whether an app reports moving time or elapsed time. A stop at a crossing can affect one but not the other. The arithmetic may be correct in both apps while the underlying definition of the session differs.
